Dell(TM) OpenManage(TM) Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package for Windows Readme NOTE TO CUSTOMERS: The Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package for Windows applies to customers that cannot install Array Manager 3.4.1 for Windows due to the presence of the ASPI 4.7.x driver on their system. Always see the Dell support Website at support.dell.com for the most current information. ================================================================== Dell OpenManage Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package for Windows Readme ================================================================== -------------------------------------------------- I. CRITICALITY -------------------------------------------------- 1 - Strongly recommended for customers that have ASPI 4.7.x on their systems. To verify which version of ASPI is on your system, do the following: 1. Extract (unzip) the download package to a temporary directory. The default directory is c:\temp_aspi. 2. cd to the directory where you unzipped the download package. 3. Click on the aspiver.bat executable. This script displays a pop-up message indicating the version of the ASPI components on the system. --------------------------------------------------- II. ASPI 4.6.0 UPDATE PACKAGE FOR WINDOWS --------------------------------------------------- The Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package for Windows addresses the following: * The Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package updates your ASPI driver to version 4.6.0 regardless of which version is currently on your system. * If you attempted to install Array Manager 3.4.1 for Windows and received the following error message: "An unsupported version of ASPI has been detected on your system..." the Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package resolves this problem by removing the ASPI 4.7.x driver from your system and replacing it with the ASPI 4.6.0 driver. Once the ASPI 4.6.0 driver is installed on your system, you will be able to complete installation of Array Manager 3.4.1 for Windows. Note: When performing an unattended installation on a system with the ASPI 4.7.x driver, the installation will fail without displaying an error message. After using the Array Manager ASPI 4.6.0 Package to update the ASPI driver to 4.6.0, you can complete the unattended installation. ---------------------------------------------------- III. WHAT THIS PACKAGE CONTAINS ---------------------------------------------------- The download package contains the following files: 1. This readme file 2. Self-extracting executable: inst-460.exe 3. Batch file to display current version of ASPI drivers: aspiver.bat 4. Support file for aspiver.bat: aspidisp.vbs 5. Batch file to remove ASPI from a server: remvaspi.bat 6. Support file for remvaspi.bat: remvaspi.vbs ---------------------------------------------------- IV. QUICK INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS ---------------------------------------------------- To remove existing versions of the ASPI driver and install ASPI 4.6.0, do the following: 1. Extract (unzip) the download package to a temporary directory. The default is c:\temp_aspi. 2. Open a command prompt and cd to the directory to which you unzipped the files. 3. To initiate the installation of the ASPI 4.6.0 driver, enter the following at the command prompt and press Enter: inst-460.exe Warning: Running this executable will remove any version of the ASPI driver currently on the system. Do not run the executable unless 4.6.0 is the only version of the ASPI driver you want on the system. 4. After the installation is complete, a message will display saying that your drivers have been updated successfully and to reboot your system. Rebooting your system is necessary for the new driver to take effect. Reboot your system when you receive this message. 5. Once your system has rebooted, you can run aspiver.bat to verify that the update completed successfully. To run aspiver.bat, cd to the directory where you unzipped the download package. The default location is c:\temp_aspi. Click on the aspiver.bat executable. This script displays a pop-up message indicating the version of the ASPI components on the sysytem. Verify that the following components are at the same version: ASPI32.sys and WNASPI32.dll WOWPOST.exe and WINASPI.dll ---------------------------------------------------- V. ASPI 4.6.0 REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS ---------------------------------------------------- You can remove the ASPI 4.6.0 driver using the remvaspi.bat script. To remove ASPI 4.6.0 from your system: 1. cd to the directory where you unzipped the download package. The default location is C:\temp_aspi. 2. Click on the remvaspi.bat executable. 3. Reboot the server when the remvaspi.bat script has completed. Note: Managing components attached to a non-RAID SCSI controller requires that a version of the ASPI driver be installed on the system. If you remove the ASPI driver, you will not be able to manage any component attached to a non-RAID SCSI controller. ---------------------------------------------------- VI. KNOWN ISSUES ---------------------------------------------------- * Running the Windows 2003 Driver Verifier utility on a system with the ASPI 4.6.0 driver causes the system to blue screen. ------------------------------------------------- Information in this document is subject to change without notice.
